March 30, 2007: New elephant parade video for "Goodbye":
It was directed by me, shot by Itay Gross, and edited by Oren Idan. March 8, 2007: I'm in Tel Aviv right now, working on a few projects, and we just shot a pretty little video for Elephant Parade. I'll upload it to the site very soon. Some works will be screened in New York, France and even Milwaukee (TBA). Also: this month's issue of Israeli traveler magazine Masa Acher includes a fairly expansive article I wrote about Brooklyn, one of my favorite places in the world. February 2, 2007: My recent
work, Trauma Room, will be installed for the winter
show at Heaven Gallery,
in Chicago. The show goes up on February 17. These are the other participating
artists: Neil Needleman, Jeff Creath The dates of my video screening at Espace Croise's Saison Video, in France, are also available: On March 19 they'll screen Polar Bears, and on May 2 Trauma Room. January 1, 2007: Dreams of Failure will be exhibited in a show titled "Failure": Contemporary art about weakness, deficiency, incompetence, error, loss, breakdown, disintegration, extinction, and other related sings of life". The show runs January 8 through February 2nd, at the Kent Place Gallery, 42 Norwood Avenue, Summit New Jersey. It features work by six other artists: Richard Deon, Andrew Demirjian, Mary Farmilant, Jason de Haan, Michael Meyer, and Miyuki Tsushima. November 3, 2006: Lots of interesting events in November. Cooking for Richard was just screened at the Savannah film festival, and here's a review (4 stars!). Next week my work will be screened in Italy at LITcontemporanea, and in New York at Reel Jews Festival at the 92Y. Dates will soon be published for screenings of two of my works at the Center for Contemporary Art espace Croise in Roubaix France. October 10, 2006: Back from Germany, now in Israel. CityZooms in Germany was a great experience, bringing 12 amazing artists from all over the world together. It was sad to leave. For those in New York, you can catch my work in two different events of the Dumbo Arts festival: Video_Dumbo will screen my new piece, "Trauma Room", an exploration of a scene from "Bambi" and i.dent.it(y), will screen "What I Want". Even if you don't go to the screenings, I suggest you visit this amazing art event. September 27, 2006: I'm leaving for Germany next week to attend CityZooms, a project organized by the Hannover Film Festival. The program invites 12 video artists and experimental filmmakers from all over the world for a week of collaboration and presentations. Those in Hannover on October 6 can attend a public screening of work by the artists. After Germany, I'll be in Israel, participating in a group show at the Digital Arts Center in Hulon. On November 11, MisShapes project will be screened at a pop-art party/event in the north of Italy called LITcontemporanea. September 4 , 2006: Some Cooking for Richard news: The Con-Can film festival (Japan) just ended. Cooking for Richard reached the 10 finalist films. The Chairman of the jury, Mr. Jean-Michel Frodon, who is the editor in chief of the Cahiers du Cinema (and before that served as the senior editor of the film section of "Le Monde") chose the film as one of his favorites in the festival and wrote about it: "The mourning of a woman after her beloved fat husband died of too much liver pate is built through the relation with the deceased's image. A subtle play between death, image, memory and life, astoundingly well filmed, with an intense tenderness towards the main actress." On other news: August 29 marked our Russian premiere as the film was screened in Saint Petersburg's short film festival. August 17, 2006: Just returned from my trip to Tacoma, where I installed "Dreams of Failure". Here's a picture of the project, located in downtown Tacoma:
And a little press. On other news, there's some more festival action for Cooking for Richard with Savannah Film Festival, and Reel Jews Film Festival. July 28, 2006: A war is raging at home. It makes it hard to work, hard to concentrate. I was interviewed for an article in an Israeli paper (about my work) and the reporter asked about my opinion of the situation. I told her I don't like to look at things in blacks and whites and don't believe in pure righteousness or pure evil. Killing innocent people, whether they are Lebanese or Israelis is the worst, and it breaks my heart. I've been invited to participate in a spontaneous exhibition at the 92nd st. Y gallery in New York, in response to the war. The show opens this Sunday (July 30th) and I will exhibit a new untitled digital print.
June 26: I have uploaded a little 'preview' clip out of Cooking for Richard. The film will screen today at the Emerging filmmakers series in Rochester, NY and on July 13 at the Jerusalem International film festival. You can look at pictures from "Found Space" (where Polar Bears was exhibited, at Critical Line gallery in Tacoma, WA here. Elephant Parade's new album, "Bedroom Recordings" received 4 stars (out of 5) from Time Out Tel Aviv. Read excerpts from the review and more album coverage, here. News for June: I am thrilled to announce that Cooking for Richard was selected to be screened at this upcoming Jerusalem International Film Festival (July 6-15). This is an incredible festival, and it holds a very dear place in my heart since my first short film, "Welcome to Tel Aviv" was awarded the Young Director's Award at the 1999 festival. On other news: The Strippers, my series of digital prints, has been selected to be projected at the Viridian Artists Gallery in Chelsea (530 W 25th st. NY) as a part of a national juried exhibition curated by Robert Rosenblum of the Guggenheim Museum. May 18, 2006: Art, and then more art: May concludes my period as a resident artist at the 92nd st. Y/Makor in New York. The residency was a good opportunit to connect with other artists working in the city, trying to transform our practice to something less lonely, more communal. The Makor artist in residence marathon will take place in June 4 at the Makor arts center (35 west 67th street, New York). The marathon features six hours of art events, panels, performances, readings, and video screenings. The Makor Gallery exhibition will open June 4 and will stay open until July 2nd. More news: You can look at pictures from "Found Space", at Critical Line gallery in Tacoma, WA here. Elephant Parade's new album, "Bedroom Recordings" received 4 stars (out of 5) from Time Out Tel Aviv. Read excerpts from the review and more album coverage, here.
